Time has fallen asleep in the afternoon sunshine: Reflections on the practice
On Thursday 11 May at 19:00 Bruno De Wachter will kick off a series of weekly talks reflecting on the practice of Mette Edvardsen’s project at Galerie Ravenstein. Bruno De Wachter is the Selected Poems of Hans Faverey, both in the original Dutch version, and in the English translation. He will speak about being a ‘book’. A moment to follow a singular experience of different phases of the life of a book. The following talks will include Jeroen Peeters (18 May) and Victoria Pérez Royo (25 May). More information is coming soon.
Within: exhibition opens on 10 May
From 10 to 25 May at Palais de la Dynastie you can go and see the exhibition of instruments that Tarek Atoui has developped in the frame of Within, a project based on the way in which people who are deaf or hard of hearing perceive sound. The exhibition will be open from 12:00 to 20:00 (exceptionally closed on 15, 19, 20 and 22 May). On 13, 14, 21 and 25 May you can also book a sound massage.
Parking at festival locations
Some of this year’s festival locations are difficult to reach by car or lack parking spaces in the vicinity. On the opening night of the festival, the parking lot at the backside of WIELS will be entirely closed. It can also be difficult to find a parking spot around Les Halles de Schaerbeek, where Marlene Monteiro Freitas is performing from 5 to 8 May. Try parking your car in nearby underground car parks at Botanique or Passage 44. To travel between festival locations, we strongly recommend taking your bike or using public transport.
On Friday 5 May the festival kicks off with celebrations and trumpets sounding! At 18:00 there is a stand-up opening reception at WIELS, with interventions by the artist Mette Edvardsen and poetry slammers Mama’s Open Mic, Miss Elli and Loucka FireGun. The exhibition The Absent Museum will exceptionally remain open until 20:00. All over town there are premieres of performances by Marcelo Evelin, Marlene Monteiro Freitas, Tetsuya Umeda, and Lili Reynaud-Dewar. The studios at P.A.R.T.S. are open, and there is a concert by Tarek Atoui at Rosas Performance Space. At 23:30 Eszter Salamon and a group of dancers will inaugurate the festival with an open-air performance around WIELS, after which the opening party breaks loose. A limited number of tickets to see the shows is still on sale. See you Friday!
