PLAYWATCH: Open call for Brussels theatre viewers with a curious mind

Do you love theatre and/or dance and afterwards talk about it with others? Would you like to deepen your view of performances? Is there perhaps even a future critic lurking inside you? Sign up for PLAYWATCH before 12 February 2024 (noon)!

PLAYWATCH is a low-threshold talent development initiative of review website pzazz.theater with Brussels arts organisations Kunstenfestivaldesarts, Kaaitheater, KVS, Beursschouwburg and Zinnema. Together, we will search for new voices for tomorrow's stage criticism, reflecting the diversity of the arts field and society in terms of colour, gender, background, ...

PLAYWATCH aims at a multi-voiced group. Participants (aged 18 to 35) do not necessarily need to be familiar with theatre and other performing arts, but above all be curious and feel like sharing their impressions with others.

What and how?

• An inclusive and multilingual viewing and reflection programme in the Brussels performing arts scene between February and May 2024.
• Each month, we watch one performance as a group in one of the partner theatres. A week later, we meet again to talk about what we saw together. What did you like and why? What would you tell or write about it?
• During the programme, you are stimulated and guided to process your opinion about one or more performances in a written review, a short video, a blog post, a podcast or another form that suits you. This way, you learn to look more closely at theatre and dance, and to better explain your spontaneous opinion. You will simply see more...
• We will watch these performances together, you get a free ticket each time:
 - Sat 17 February (20h00): DEMONstratio - Beursschouwburg (meeting at 18h)
 - Tue 19 March (19h): R.I.S.A. (Reckless Idiots Seeking for Absolution) – KVS
 - Thu 25 April (20h15): Le présent qui déborde – Kaaitheater at Théâtre National
 - Fri 10 May: Until the beat never fades – Zinnema
 - Sat 25 & Sun 26 May: several performances at Kunstenfestivaldesarts 2024

In between the performances we will meet to discuss them, on Mon 26 February (7pm), Fri 26 March (7pm), Tue 30 April (7pm), Sat 25 May (11am), Tue 4 June (7pm).

The whole trajectory is guided by Emilie Kabongo (Kunstenfestivaldesarts a.o.) & Wouter Hillaert (Pzazz a.o.), in English, French and Dutch.
