Imazighen are a distinctive group of several nations mostly indigenous to Maghreb and some northern parts of West Africa, preexisting the Arabization of North Africa. ASIF // THE RIVER is a pilot-project that focuses on art and culture that originates from the Amazigh diaspora, today rooted in several countries, including Belgium, and its connection with Maghreb. During the Free School this project will take the shape of a temporary contemporary cultural center, where conversations, workshops, exhibitions, craft, poetry and visuals will take place. The project aims to raise ancestral connections through the creation of a space to exchange, celebrate and archive the distinctiveness of Amazigh culture. Furthermore, it is also an attempt at preserving its significance in a collective experience.
