Escape from Caveland!

The Kunstenfestivaldesarts is almost over. Very soon Welcome to Caveland! will disappear again into the underground. On Saturday 28 May the gates to the cave will be open for one last time for a spectacular concert by Philippe Quesne and his band of moles. The concert starts at 11pm at Les Brigittines. Everyone is welcome.

Chicago project

For the fifth year in a row, youth centre Chicago and the Kunstenfestivaldesarts are running the Chicago project. Accompanied by members of the Kunstenfestivaldesarts and the youth centre, a group of youngsters attends several festival performances with their cameras in hand. They record each other’s expectations and reactions, edit the material into video clips, and share these online. But the heated discussions about the performances continue long after the cameras have been stuffed back into their backpacks. You can now watch the first video report about their visit to Alessandro Sciarroni’s Aurora at Halles de Schaerbeek on our Vimeo page. On the final day of the festival, the youngsters will share their experiences with the audience during a public presentation at Les Brigittines.

Programme Reflection Day #3

The full programme of the third and last reflection day at Les Brigittines is now online. The final reflection day takes place on Saturday 21 May at Les Brigittines. It explores the topic of traces of excess, with interventions by Sarah Vanhee, Vincent Meessen, SPEAP, James Rubin and Philippe Quesne. Click here for an overview of the programme.

Takao Kawaguchi premiere moved to 15 May

The premiere of Takao Kawaguchi’s About Kazuo Ohno, initially scheduled for Saturday 14 May at 20:30 at the Bâtiment Dynastie, is moved to Sunday 15 May at 17:00.

Due to changes in the programme of The Pride Festival in Brussels, several activities will take place in and around the Mont des Arts on Saturday 14 May. Creating good conditions for both the public and the performers is a priority for the Kunstenfestivaldesarts, and therefore we have decided to reschedule the premiere of About Kazuo Ohno on Sunday 15 May at 17:00. All ticket holders will be personally contacted by our box office. A limited amount of tickets to the premiere and other dates of About Kazuo Ohno has been put on sale again. Iranian Theatre Today: Another Look

On Thursday 12 May a conference will be held in La Bellone on the topic of Iran’s contemporary theatre scene. Six researchers and well-known artists from Iran sketch an unpublished, hybrid image of the reality of the theatre scene in their home country. Amir Reza Koohestani, Azadeh Shahmiri and others will discuss their concrete experiences.

The conference takes place on Thursday 12 May from 14:00 to 19:00 at La Bellone.

Admission is free, but limited to 18 spectators at a time. Registration at the bookshop. Click here for more info and the dates.

Programme reflection day #1

On the first three Saturdays the festival is holding open moments of reflection where the topic of the cave resonates. Artists and thinkers will be giving lectures and workshops, generally intervening in different formats to construct a hypothetical, narrative journey through the representation of the cave that is evoked by Welcome to Caveland! The first reflection day takes place on Saturday 7 May from 13:30 to 17:15 at Les Brigittines. Toshiki Okada, Rodrigo Sobarzo, Arkadi Zaides and others will tackle the topic of protection. The full programme can be found here.

BERLIN: additional performance

An extra date for BERLIN’s Zvizdal has just been added to the festival calendar, on Sunday 15 May at 15:00 at BRONKS. Tickets are now up for sale at the box office.

The Time We Share is a book that has been structured like a play. Like a reference work, it includes projects that have left their mark on the first nineteen editions of the Kunstenfestivaldesarts. The Time We Share was published by the Kunstenfestivaldesarts and Mercatorfonds on the occasion of the twentieth edition of the Kunstenfestivaldesarts in May 2015. The book is now on sale again, at the festival box office and in bookshops. Click here for more info.
