The Time We Share is a book that has been structured like a play, outlining the themes that have featured in the Kunstenfestivaldesarts over the past two decades. It attempts to provide a lasting record of its ephemeral artistic practices, as well as open up the past to the future. Like a reference work, it invites readers to think about how the performing arts reflect and shape a society. Through a number of different viewpoints, The Time We Share includes projects that have left their mark on the first nineteen editions of the festival. It consists of a large number of new contributions by creators and theorists who think about the world from a performing arts perspective. Some of the themes tackled in this publication are also being explored during three study days: periods of reflection comprising talks, workshops, projections and encounters – on the living memory of the performing arts, on the time we share inside and outside theatre.

Daniel Blanga-Gubbay (b. 1982) lives and works in Brussels. After graduating in philosophy from the Venice University of Architecture, he was awarded a PhD jointly run by the University of Palermo, Valencia and the Freie Unversität Berlin. He currently teaches political philosophy of the arts at the Académie Royale des Beaux Arts in Brussels, and has a research project at the Heinrich Heine Universität in Düsseldorf on the redefinition of the concept of the possible and its use in political discourse, recently presented at Moscow State University, the American University of Beirut and Itaú Cultural Institute, São Paulo. He is the founder of the Brussels-based project Aleppo (a Laboratory for Experiments in Performance and Politics).

Lars Kwakkenbos (b. 1975) lives and works in Brussels and Ghent. He studied history and art history at the University of Leuven, the Université François Rabelais (Tours) and the Freie Universität and Humboldt-Universität in Berlin. Since 2001 he has published articles on visual and performing arts and architecture in magazines and newspapers such as De Standaard, A+ and Etcetera. From 2002 to 2007 he worked for Klara, the arts and culture radio channel of the national broadcaster. Since 2008 Kwakkenbos has taught at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent (KASK), where he is now Head of the Film, Photography and Drama department. He works for the Kunstenfestivaldesarts as dramaturg and he is a member of its advisory board. As a writer, teacher and dramaturg, he reflects on the political and cultural horizons of artistic practices and works of art.
