Apichatpong Weerasethakul prefers to be called Mister Joe. This Thai film director lives in Bangkok, a city he loathes; whenever he can, he escapes to the untamed parts of his country which he really loves to film. Joe's dreamlike cinema is just as crazy and mysterious as its creator. Each film is an experiment in form, an erratic stroll, a Pandora's box that we scarcely dare open in case we discover the director's dreadful secrets. In his new film, Joe once again explores the spirit world and proclaims his admiration for the human soul: long after man is extinct, trees and animals have taken his place and assumed his appearance, keen to recreate a humanity they would dearly love to have.
