The tendency to measure all areas of society in economic terms (productivity, profitability, return on investment...) has also seeped into the art world. The value of art as a ‘product’ is increasingly expressed in figures. But can we actually measure that which is imaginative, unpredictable, unfathomable – in short, immeasurable? Or is it more coherent to reverse the roles and assess the economy in terms of artistic integrity? In 2014, SPIN, the research platform and artist collective , convened a think tank to reflect on these questions. Still searching for answers, they are appropriating the Kunstenfestivaldesarts as a testing ground. During the festival, Quantifiction will pop up as a public intervention; part statistical study, part poetic provocation - an enquiry into your doubts and opinions. On May 2nd, SPIN launches the intervention by way of an event that cheerfully merges into the Kunstenfestivaldesarts 2014 opening party. Ready? Begin!
