Meet the artist after the performance on 12/05

July 1968. At the Festival d’Avignon, the famous New York theatre company The Living Theater premieres with Paradise Now. Inspired by spiritual practices like yoga, meditation, and the Kabbalah, they want to connect members of the public with one another and bring them into a state of readiness: ready for action in the outside world. Fifty years on and together with a new generation, Michiel Vandevelde explores what remains of the legacy of May 68. The world has completely changed and many hippie ideals have become trendy practices. What is left of collectivity as an artistic or political statement? Do young people still feel the need to fight for a better future? In Paradise Now (1968-2018), Vandevelde assembles a heterogeneous group of performers between the ages of 13 and 23 to enter into this sensory ‘happening’ about love. A wild choreography of iconic images acted out by young bodies, in which a horizon of possibilities might occur. Now.
