There are four Argentine productions
on the bill at this year’s Festival
which has generated a desire to take a different
approach to probing the explosive country that is Argentina and
have a stark look at what has been written about it. The public
is being offered a Salón Argentino, like a reading
in a Buenos Aires café, but avoiding above all the mistake
of fantasising over a stereotypical representation.
We asked several
Argentine artists to send us texts that, for them, most accurately
evoke the feelings that they have about
their country today. The response has been startling. They
have been arranged into an evening set to music chosen by Edgardo
Rudnitzky, the composer and sound designer behind several productions,
films and contemporary installations in Argentina.
