A Festival in Brussels

All too often, Brussels, the capital of Europe, is seen exclusively as a city of politics, administration and finance, a city left devoid of personality through urban recklessness and where there is little cultural activity. Yet situated at the crossroads of Latin and Germanic culture and nourished by the cultures of its different immigrant communities, Brussels is a hive of creativity. Few towns can claim to be the home of so many artists.

With the Festival on such an international scale, it enhances Brussels' image and unites people across linguistic and cultural divides. This is of course made possible by the close collaboration of the Festival's supporters in Brussels, its artists and organisers.

The kunstenFESTIVALdesArts really is a Festival of, for and by Brussels. It wants to be local – based as it is in the city – and international at the same time: two apparently contradictory desires which are reconciled in the way the Festival is organised.
