The N6, better known as the “Bergense Steenweg” or “Chaussée de Mons”, links Brussels with Mons; the city centre with the suburbs. This busy traffic artery cuts unpredictably through the landscape, giving a rapidly alternating view of outlandish architecture, traces of industrial decline, desolate pieces of no-man’s-land, discotheques and cheap megastores. Sometimes tired, then lonely again or suddenly full of energy, it winds through Brussels, Flanders and Wallonia and cuts through the language barrier: in other words, a typical Belgian road. Els Dietvorst, Orla Barry, Wim Cuyvers, Johanna Kirsch, Nikolaus Gansterer form a temporary collective of artists across several disciplines. For months they roamed the N6. On foot or by bicycle. At night or in the daytime. Armed with a camera or a notebook. One making an inventory of the bus stops, another trying to integrate her body in the urban landscape. The Stone Road is the result of their experiences; a collection of photos, video material, fictions and models. A view of this urban phenomenon as you have never seen before…
In NIGHT SHOP. Readings, performances, screenings, streamings the members of the N6 group Els Dietvorst, Orla Barry, Wim Cuyvers, Johanna Kirsch and Nikolaus Gansterer will share their last reactions to a project they submitted themselves to for two years. In these readings, drawing performances, screenings and steamings they attempt to share with an audience in a live context the fragility of putting oneself out there alone on the Chaussée de Mons/Bergensesteenweg. Click here for more info about this performance that will take place on 9/05 at the Beursschouwburg.
