Moscow, where all roads still lead to the Kremlin. Where more billionaires live per square kilometre than anywhere else in the world. Where the mayor has the participants in the gay parade beaten up. Where everything you touch is history. Where every cliche is confirmed and denied. Where you don’t order vodka by the glass but by the gram. Moscow, a circus? Berlin went to speak to several prominent Muscovites and recorded what they had to say in a disconcerting film document. However, this collective – with its roots in theatre – does not just simply screen the film. The audience
enters a tent designed for the show. While the film is projected on moving screens, a string quartet and a pianist play Benjamin Boutreur’s soundtrack. Moscow is the fourth part of the Holoceen cycle, a series of portraits of towns and cities that has already covered Jerusalem (2004), Iqaluit (2005) and Bonanza (2006).
